Perfect Steamed Rice (No Rice Cooker)
Ingredients
- 1 cup long grain rice
- 2 cups water
- Pinch of salt (optional)
Instructions
- Place the rice in a sieve and rinse under cold water until the water runs mostly clear.
- Add the rice and 2 cups of water to a saucepan.
- Add a small pinch of salt if desired.
- Bring the pan to a gentle boil.
Cooking
- Once boiling, reduce heat to low.
- Cover the pan with a lid.
- Simmer for 10–12 minutes until the water is absorbed.
Resting
- Turn off the heat and leave the lid on for 5 minutes.
- Fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving.
Notes
- Do not stir the rice while cooking.
- Keeping the lid on traps steam and cooks the rice evenly.
- Works best with long grain or basmati rice.
- Serve with dishes like Sweet and Sour Chicken.
